Latest draft Remedial Order to amend requirement in British citizenship applications

The Home Office has issued a further draft Remedial Order to amend the good character requirement for certain applications for British citizenship under the British Nationality Act 1981. This amendment marks a progression in the Remedial Order and it is expected to come into effect in Spring 2019.

The Home Office has not made substantial changes to the first draft Remedial Order which was published on 15 March 2018. The applications for registration as a British citizen under sections 4C, 4F, 4G, 4H and 4I of the British Nationality Act 1981 where the ground for refusal is that the applicant does not meet the good character criteria remain on hold until further notice.
